Patience Cup

68.00

Now, more than ever, what we need is patience, and that is what this special little cup hopes to evoke. To some it's a simple cup, to others, a yunomi (every day cup for tea), but what makes it so special is that it is a collaboration between Petaluma, CA based Potter, Forrest Lesch-Middelton, and Asheville, NC based Printmaker/Calligrapher, Beth Schaible. A Collaboration over three thousand miles, and now it will complete it's journey in your hands...

These cups are made by screen-printing patterns in iron onto paper and then transferring them onto the piece halfway through the wheel-throwing stage, a process the artist has dubbed "Volumetric Image Transfer". The pots are fired to 2300ºF and cooled without oxygen until 1375º, a process known as "Reduction Cooling" designed to retain the clay's black Iron color from the reduction of oxygen in the iron molecule.
