SOUND WAVE TILE: In 2017 I spent time experimenting with a Chladni plate, a metal plate balanced atop a tone generator that when dusted with sand, creates imagery through vibration. Particulate morphs smoothly, steadily changing into impeccable new line images. Pattern transforms into new pattern with the smallest shifts in frequency. The results are magical, beautiful, bold, and intriguing. Some equate it to music, some science, and some find the process purely mystical. This process was the perfect inspiration for our Sound Wave Tile series.

TIMELINE: Please note that our tile is handmade and made to order once your order is placed. Our current lead time depends on your quantity ordered but is typically 4-7 weeks from the day your order is placed. We do stock small quantities of tile, if your purchase is on hand it can be shipped within 1-2 weeks. If you need to know exact production timelines please contact us before placing an order.

SEALING: We recommend all of our tile be sealed prior to installation. While our tile is very durable and is fully vitrified in our firing process it is not glazed and sealing the tile helps it to maintain it’s unique surface and color through both installation and for years to come. We offer an in-house sealing service at .50 per tile using a matte-finish nano sealant. If you or your contractor would prefer to seal it yourself we are happy to recommend a sealant to you. If you’d like to add sealing to your order leave us a note at checkout and the cost of this service will be added to your shipping invoice.
Note: While almost all of our clients choose this service it is not mandatory and unsealed tile can patina beautifully over time and use. Unsealed tile is much more difficult to grout and requires a great deal of attention. We recommend finger or injection grouting with a caulking gun for unsealed tile. All of our tile, sealed or unsealed will be shipped with an installation and care guide.

DISCLAIMER: The color and surface of each tile may vary slightly as every tile is handmade, and fired in our Petaluma studio. Our unique process insures that the patina of each individual tile is reminiscent of time worn beauty while still maintaining a cohesive product. For large orders we recommend ordering a sample, as all sales are final.
